New York photo diary part 2. I find myself constantly looking up when walking the city streets. I should really pay more attention where I am going because bumping into fire hydrants and tripping over the cement cracks are creating a museum of bruises on my legs and knees. I can't help but admire all the tall buildings, architecture and apartments with fire escapes! I just realized that we always have a drink in our hands if it's not coffee..it's alkie..or both! Oh the joy of discovering Mexican Coffee!

Long overdue photos from my trip to New York this past March and it was breathe taking as always. I'm such a cheese-ball whenever I try to describe how much I am absolutely in love with this city. Each part of NY has so much to offer all in it's own little ways. I appreciate every bit of it! I can be inspired to the max by just simply sitting in a park. I love walking everywhere til my feet fall off it gives me the possibility of coming across different people. The city is filled with eclectic fashion choices from Men in suits carrying briefcases to divas in amazing heels strutting to work coffee in hand. The Plastics and I spent 5 wonderful days roaming the streets in the concrete jungle. I always leave lovesick and wanting more.

Always addicted to crop tops and midriffs especially for this spring/summer season. R.I.P feather hair extensions they fell out one day at work such a sad day! I am seeing girls in the O.C. rocking them from left to right, a spring hair trend that is taking over. I had doubts about this smurf blue nail polish I purchased at Forever21 but it's grown on me and I love the contrast against my coral skirt. Don't ask me why but I almost never have all my finger nails painted. It's a miracle when I can paint every single nail note the one finger nail without paint.

I can never find affordable chain-like headpieces so it was time to be inventive and create my own. I transformed my gold rose necklace into a "that-will-have-to-do" headpiece. Because it will have to do until I find the perfect one. Sorta feel like an Egyptian goddess when I wear it. I am still breaking in these Dolce Vita boots, got these bad boys on my trip to New York. Finally a boot with a harness!

These mega awesome photos are the second set the gorgeous Melissa De Mata took when we shot at the beginning of the year. She informed me that she wanted to feature them on Light Meets Night along with a Q&A. I've never been asked personal questions having to do with fashion or really took the time to give it some thought. It was really refreshing to actually read my responses and be confronted with the truth. I feel like these photos were a great reflection for me about being confident. Confidence is key if you don't believe in yourself then why should others? Thanks again for the way beyond rad feature LMN!

LMN: What is your personal fashion philosophy?

JV: Fashion to me is my biggest form of self expression. It’s an obsession pouring out of me, running through my blood. An addiction, I can’t turn it off even if I wanted to. Each day I have the constant need to create. People are always going to have an opinion about your style and choice of clothing-whether it’s negative or positive, but as long you stay true to yourself and love it… F what they think! They say dance like no one’s watching… I say wear whatever the hell you want! Wear what you want, whenever you want, however you want-wear it with confidence!

JV: My mother- PAST and PRESENT

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen- I’ve admired them ever since I was little ( I have them to thank for my cornrow twisties/ butterfly clips craze!) They are innovators and constantly revamping themselves it amazes me!

Abby Lee Kershaw- I am digging her Model Off Duty looks. She throws things together in such an effortless way.

Lykke Li- Her music is honest and pure madness! She has a dark soul. She performs with strong emotion and dances so weird I love it! ( gahhh I want to see her live!)

Christine Centenera- Fashion Editor of Harper’s Bazaar Australia. She’s lady like but still has that funkiness edge.

Running through a pit stop and striking poses with my sisters in the desert make for lovely photos. My Easter outfit which sorta resembles an 80's workout girl making a lovechild with a hippie- yeah I'm trying to justify this outfit. I kinda just threw on the remaining clean items of clothing I packed. I couldn't resist wearing my new ALPACA handwoven multicolor headband that I just purchased.

End of the week outfit worn to school. To think that I almost tossed out my mother's old floral maxi...What the hell was I thinking?!!? I love how it ties together in the front, super odd but I super like! I have a habit of throwing sweaters of all sorts over dresses like this crop top thermal, over it goes...OoOlala and my new feather hair extensions that I got at a salon in NY. Jaydee suggested feathas would be the perfect remedy for losing her iphone-and it was!!! Ashills tracked down the salon and appointments were made just in time before our flight back home. Wish we had a bigger selection of feathers to choose from but it's supposedly all the rage and we were left with bright neon colors...No worries because Jaydee found where we can get more feathhas and I probably will be looking like a bird's nesting in my hair within the next week..That's alright with me!

I have been a fan of Kate Bosworth and stylist Cher Coulter's Jewelry line JewlMint ever since I discovered them in Nylon Magazine March 2011 issue. I was drawn to their tribal vintage inspired pieces. The jewelry is dainty and perfect for layering. I recently stumbled across their Facebook page and noticed that they were having a contest to win two pieces from their line by posting a potential outfit for Coachella. Fringe, denim shorts, piles of vintage jewelry, feathass in my hair, braids, and a colorful embroidered/beaded satchel- my Coachella outfit mash up! Unfortunately I am not attending, but this is my outfit that I would boogie on down to the tunes of the Black Keys and swaying to the melodies of Angus and Julia Stone. MAN OH MAN! Why does the line up have to be soooo freaking awesome??!?!

We met at the Coffee Bean while I was trying to figure out what I wanted to order, she recommended an iced americano and was not shy at all to let me know how much she liked my outfit(denim cut offs, red printed poncho, lace kimono, and urban outfitters suede brown boots, piled on jewelry with my two day unwashed hair)-THANKS! We sparked up a convo. about our addiction to coffee, art, self expression, fashion and photography... Met up at a later day to collaborate on ideas-the end result a short shoot in the woods to add to her spring collection! The joy of networking and meeting new people! The perks of having my BFF as my personal makeup artist! Jaydee's tips for achieving this look:

I am a strong believer in anything Too Faced, especially their eye and lip pallets! They are definitely worth every penny. For eye makeup I decided to go for a softer smokey eye, using the 'nice' side of my naughty & nice Too Faced pallet. The colors used are soft and darker shades of brown. I used Joana's own black liner to accentuate this look, with a little liner in the inner eye that gradually became thicker towards her outer eye, which adds depth to the look. I used my favorite Nars lipstick called 'Roman Holiday'. It's the perfect pink shade for this Spring! To make the look an even softer pink I used a lilac color gloss by Revlon called 'Lilac Pastelle'. I used some Sun Bunny Bronzer by Too Faced to finish off the look and voila! You have a simple, yet chic look for Spring that takes only minutes to achieve.

There was only one thing on my mind this past week...The promise Ron Alan made to take me to get some red and blue velvet pancakes! So to Larchmont Bungalow we go! I could see why this is LaLions favorite cafe! I wanted so many things on the menu but had to get what I came in for! Pancakes for lunch is the best THANKS Ron Alan! We couldn't just have lunch in Larchmont without visiting LF Stores...The 60% off sale was still going on and I was hoping to walk away with shoes perhaps some new Jeffrey Campbell's. I had no luck in the shoe department but walked away with a cute black top that draped in the back and was short in the front.Decided to stop by my neighborhood park to take photos as the sun set. Pros and Cons to this button up I consider a dress; PROS: the kimono/drapey features, the floral print and the new discovery of pockets!...CON: it's a triple XL and how it appears to make me look just like that...Nothing a waist belt can't fix!

Awesome film photos taken at the end of December, just a normal day dropping Big Sis Jane off at LAX for another trip to London. Brought Ron Alan along because Jane does not trust my driving. Roaming around the airport trying to find an exit to the parking garage= Paparazzi like photos? Farewell Orangutan colored hair! It was time to say goodbye and dye it back to my almost natural hair color. Yes I am fully aware my hair will probably fall out from all the chemical damage I have done. Perming and bleaching=Nappy not so happy hair. Must calm down with the on-going experimentation.

The mail came and brought me this glorious issue of Nylon Magazine, a beam of light beckoned to me from behind the copy. I immediately flipped to Kate Bosworth's editorial...Pretty sure I had a big pile of drool after analyzing every single outfit, Kudos Cher Coulter on the styling! Kate Bosworth's looks were amazing from head to toe. The messy boho braids, the mixing of prints meshing together, the layering, the stacking of jewelery, the flowy silhouettes and bright colors had me dazed and confused. How can one love every single article of clothing?! If you haven't yet get your March '11 issue of Nylon each page was pouring with great designer features and trends. Super refreshing and inspired for this spring season!

Incognito in my Obey scarecrow hat..This hat has got to be the most packing friendly hat I own. Into my luggage it goes when packing it never loses it's structure. Thanks to Ayee and her mother for getting rid of a variety of her old high waisted denim shorts, these vintage L.E.I's being one of them. I turned these shorts into a D.I.Y. project. First I cut the cuffs and fringed it up...Then took a seam ripper and made a distressed patch. The end result Jo-wearable vintage L.E.I's revamped! I love taking old things and making them new again.

Final Product of the Photo shoot leaves me blown away with the turn out! For these looks we wanted to mix pretty with edge. When I think pretty this beautiful cream dress designed and created by my bestie TRIXIE comes to mind. The Vince Camuto wedge boots played the part of edge topped with the dark plum lipstick. I'm drawn to all things hippie and bohemian, this vintage lace dress was perfect, accessorized with all my favorite vintage jewelery pieces, worn with combat boots for the edgy touch. Melissa informed me that these photos would be featured on the website Light Meets Night, an online magazine blog based in Los Angeles where Melissa contributes her works of art, this editorial being one of the many. These photos were taken this past November.. The night consisted accompanying my big sis Jane to attend her friends birthday festivities. Decided to pose for FBJ in the parking lot, not too sure about all those wet stains on the cement, hopefully it wasn't vomit. I have a new addiction with knee highs and all versions of trouser socks peeking through heels and boots. This Benneton top never fails me, decided to knot it up instead of tucking it into my skirt. Pretty darn sure that I had this skirt, top, and the knee highs on rotation with different garments for a week. Jane is currently romping around London visiting her UK BF probably shopping at all sorts of markets and vintage shops..Can not wait til she comes home and I get to ransack through the goodies plus I suppose I sorta kinda miss her..In the mean time I've been having a blast selecting items from her closet without having to ask permission!

I did a photo shoot with mega awesome Melissa De Mata of happymess sort of a last minute "Hey lets whip something up because we have this urge running through our blood to shoot and dress up in really awesome clothes and platform heels and romp around fields and get bitten by all sorts of bug species sort of thing!" No but really... I absolutely love working with people who have this creative vision and just want to produce beautiful work to simply express themselves in ways that some may or may not understand. This is why I admire Melissa so much...She says what she feels and has a way of trying to define her emotions and those she shoots through her photos in such a breathtaking way. Here are a few behind the scenes photos from the shoot. How rad is it that I have my own personal make-up artist since I pretty much only know how to put on the basics. I was Jaydee's blank canvas, painting my lips a dark plum, piling on the mascara and teasing my hair Snooki-Style. Thanks a bunch Jaydee! We packed bags of clothes, shoes, make up, full length mirror in the other hand and hiked up a hill to a small field to get our fix!

This past year I came to realizations with different aspects of my life, it was definitely a year of growth. I've learned that I had to be honest with myself when it came to many things. I'm finally heading on the path of where I ultimately want to be which is truly happy. I'm so grateful to be surrounded by my mega awesome/ amazing family and friends who inspire me everyday. I've learned that opportunities don't just fall into your lap, you have to go out and get it! And that's what 2011 is dedicated to going out and getting "it". I have been absent from the blogging world or any form of internet communication, YES it was finals week and it's finally over! Ron Alan and I took a trip to Venice Beach on the hunt for the infamous Wolf Hat. He would not stop ranting and raving about it as if his life would be ten times better with it! Sooo worth the trip because I'm pretty sure he wore it for a week straight! He must of got a comment on it everywhere we went, quite the head turner! I must admit it is pretty adorable. These are the Forever21 wedges that are already falling apart. I don't think superglue could even fix the problem and superglue fixes everything! I have a bajillion of things/projects on my mind this holiday season; can't wait to get started and get crafty! I hope everyone is enjoying the best time of the year!

My very first pair of Jeffrey Campbell shoes! Thanks Plum for Polly for supplying me with one of the most comfortable shoes that I now own. If you're interested in purchasing them I suggest going up a size. I'm normally a size 7 and had to go up a size.
I recently wore my Forever21 peep toe wedge booties and noticed it was falling apart after wearing them on just three outings! I guess you really do get what you pay for..makes me want to make good investments in great quality shoes that will last me through blizzards and storms! Now that these JC's are marked off my never-ending wish list onto the hunt for some Frye boots!

I love discovering new talented people! Especially people whose work I admire. I finally got to shoot with the beautiful photographer Melissa De Mata who was first brought to my attention by Jaydee. I found myself constantly checking her blog for updates because I couldn't get enough of her photos. Her bold concepts and risky images she takes of herself are one of kind. We initially tried to meet up back in the O.C. area but failed and out of all places met her on my trip up north to SF. Melissa loved these random isolated orange chairs scattered outside of a cafe. The lighting had a spotlight sort of vibe. Loved how these photos look like stills from a play. I definitely recommend checking out her blog HAPPYMESS along with her other photography blogs. Cannot wait to muster up ideas and collaborate with her in the very near future!

This past weekend was total bliss! Jaydee and I took our traditional trip up north to visit Elle in San Francisco. We met up my cousin Richard who took us around Napa Valley for wine tasting. I am so spoiled! I've gone twice in a year and I still can't get enough. I have a new love for red wines. My favorite was the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon. "Elegant and refined, the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon opens with aromas of rich black fruit laced with hints of dried herbs. The wine’s deep connection to the soil is reflected in flavors of cassis, plum and black berries which are complemented by the essence of truffle, cedar and tobacco. The entire afternoon we soaked up the sun enjoying wine and the beautiful scenery. It was one of those moments where I had to step back and realize how lucky and fortunate I am to enjoy days like these. Everyone was dressed in their fall attire: boots, stockings, knee-high socks, layers, cozy cardigans, mixing of prints, and sheer drapey items were the mash up of our outfits .

Who knew that floral and polka dots could make a combo or maybe it's just me who thinks so? Before stepping out the door, in a rush for work as always I contemplated if it actually went together. I probably decided on yes when I looked at the clock and realized I had less than 20 minutes to make it on time. This floral collared button down is actually a pajama top and is 5 sizes too big and the skirt was my mums and is missing a button. I guess I have a thing for wearing defective apparel.

Definitely the funnest costume I've worn for Halloween and most creative! Trixie came up with the idea to make costumes inspired by Katy Perry's music video "California Girls". So we gather THE PLASTICS and got our hot glue gun, candied treats, bedazzlers and glittered it up! By the end of the night the glitter was inescapable it was everywhere! Super bummed that they didn't have the song at the party we went to I was requesting it non-stop! Hope everyone had a safe and festive Halloween!

After a little less than a month of planning the sale is finally over and it was a huge success! I can not thank all of you enough who came and supported Trixie and I, and to our little arts and crafts group who were so inventive when it came to set up and hang tags! This Vintage sale made me realize that anything is truly possible if you're motivated and willing to put in the hard work. It's amazing that we pulled this off with the little time we had, we literally just went for it! It was a little taste of what's to come for the future. It would be a pleasure to work with the amazing and jaw dropping talented Trixie in the fashion industry world. She continues to inspire me and its because of her I'm not scared to do what I love. I am so blessed to be surrounded by talented and creative people, joining forces to feed our brains and souls with these projects and events. If you want to do something "Just Do It" and who cares what anyone else will think! Do what YOU want!

The 214 Magazine of Topshop's AW 2010 collection is the ultimate fashion fix from fall fashion essentials and make-up to music soundtracks straight from the catwalk. Big sis brought a copy home for me from New York and I can't stop peeling through the pages, eyes glued to the editorials. If my budget allowed me I think I'd stock up on all the cute booties and knits for this fall season. I'm so inspired by the layering and outdoorsy yet girly outfits put together that I decided to collage it up on Polyvore. My favorite item is the PROUD Block Heel Side Detail Ankle Boots ( Ron Alan brought to my attention). These outfits would be perfect for strolling the city streets on my trip to San Francisco in November. Maybe I can search my closet for items similar just so I can achieve that Topshop look.

I purchased these oxfords on my trip to New York. They go with everything! They can dress down an outfit but I still consider them dressy. Does that even make sense?! My blog is one year old today! Im eating cake in celebration and dancing to all the happening the tunes as I type this! Everyday we wake up in the morning and must put on clothes. What we choose to wear can be for many different reasons whether it's for comfort, religious affiliations, cultural backgrounds, or just to flat out express ourselves and personal point of views of our style. For me dressing up is a major way I like to voice myself and this blog has helped me do so. A very good friend of mine pushed me in the direction of starting this baby up and was a huge part of the photography. I've been drooling over their Earth Spirit Lookbook. I can't help but wonder if they had me in mind when designing these pieces??!!! The cape-like blouse, bohemian inspired accessories, over sized knits, fringe/ slouchy detailing, earth tone colors, everything I wanted and more!

I wasn't ready for the photo. I am fully aware that I look like a total dork but I still likey..For some odd reason it reminds me of Terry Richardson's style of photography. That up close and personal vibe.

I am a sucker for high-waisted shorts. I'm pretty sure I own over five pairs of these babies in different washes and fits. This Andy Warhol clutch is my ultimate favorite of all time! It defines me in a clutch, I was known as JoanaBanana since I was a child and everytime I see something with a banana I go "bananas?!!!?".
I took Trixie out for her first Taco Tuesdays as a 21 year old! We both are putting our great minds together and collaborating on projects for the future. It's super awesome to have never-ending conversations with someone who has an overflow of love and appreciation for the same thing.

I couldn't help but purchase these bad boys at Forever21. After all it was love at first sight but it took me days to make up my mind (as usual) that by the time I was ready to purchase them online they were all sold out! So you could only imagine how excited I was to see them on display all by their lonesome self! The shoe gods were calling out to me and reallly wanted me to purchase them considering they were the very last ones and in a size 7! I think I got a little carried away and also bought peep toe wedge booties, so much for saving. I gave them the five hours straight to see how comfortable they are to walk around in test, surprisingly comfortable! But who knows I lost all feeling in my toes the past years from wearing five inch heels any chance I get!

My labor day weekend was a blast! My fave local thrift store had a huge sale everything was fidy percent off! I was dodging grandmas left to right for all my goodies! Dirty dogs consisting of sauteed mushroom and onions, swiss cheese, and avocado slices. If this does not sound delish there must be something seriously wrong with you! I ended my night with going to the movie theaters to watch Eat Pray Love kinda made me crave spaghetti and a Brazilian?

I can't help but wonder if the design process was inspired by Vera Wang's Lavender Label the Rosalyn Wedge sandals. They are super similar minus the studs.

After months of contemplating if I wanted to get my nose pierced I finally did it! I seriously thought I was going to pass out on the table. I was thinking of all the horrific freak accidents that could of possibly happened during the process. A whole meditating session went down in order for me to calm my nerves. Super glad I had Jaydee with me to tell me everything was gonna be fine, I am such a baby! I survived and getting pierced didn't hurt at all besides the adjusting of the ring. Thanks John Johnson, you are zeee best! Adrian wanted to play the role of Mark the cobra snake, so I guess you can say these photos were inspired by him. Is it possible to have all your fave people in one place?! Went to a cool bar joint and then headed to Steps of Rome to get our Italian food fix. I am a very emotional person and I think I did an awesome job portraying that in these photos! The best thing about this bar is the super cute Boston Terrier who made his rounds of tips. Note to self: Must teach Toffee this genius trick! I'll be a very rich woman!

My yearly trip up north also consisted of wine and champagne tasting. Napa Valley was beautiful, covered with vineyards from left to right! After tasting so many different red wines I know have a new love for red wine! Now that I think about it my outfit kind of resembles a pilgrim woman minus some sort of apron and long maxi skirt. I love my substitute Alexander Wang sunnies! I shall call them my "Wangies"! Everyone was dressed very nicely from plaids to lace! James and Richard wore their super cute gladiator sandals. No sandals for me! I've been clogging around everywhere now that I have these Aldo clog wedges in my life. There were so many cool places for photo taking. My fave thing was the mushroom stones scattered throughout the woods. I can't wait to go back next year and explore other wineries!

I finally got my hands on clogs. I found these babies at an Aldo outlet in Las Vegas, Nevada. They didn't have my size in stock so I had to order them, waiting a week for them seemed like years!! Wutevs because it was free shipping and they were on sale for $40 originally 90 bucks!

A lovely dinner at Le Creperie in celebration of Elle's 21st birthday! Loving all the wonderful outfits put together by Trixie and Elle. Elle wore this gorgeous floral backless dress paired with nude heels. After years of contemplating the switch she finally dyed her hair red and the outcome was a great one. Her hair has been on a journey from natural dirty blonde to platinum blonde, brunette and now a red head! Trixie mixed dressy with laid back in her awesome wolf tee and a unique thirfted black harness skirt. I am super into her head scarf. She has such an inventive way of dressing. I am wearing a layered floral tank that cost me $27!!! I almost never spend that much on a tank. Yeah wutevs I shop on a budget! Getting together with my girls is always a good time because we get to dress up dUH! Cheers to the beautiful Elle Robinson may we share many more wonderful birthday memories together!

Introducing Queen E-LIZA-BETH! The next following outfit posts are inspired by Beyonce's music video "Why don't you love me". We decided to channel the curvaceous woman of the 50's! The video was filled with gorgeous 50's inspired fashion!We wanted to portray a woman with sex appeal but someone who still has class. This is a shout out to the ladies who have curves and are afraid to show them. In this post we salute you and your hourglass figure! The idea came from Lil J and I knew exactly who I wanted to get the point across. My gal-pal Queen E who embraces her curves and knows exactly how to channel her inner diva. She has confidence and class, I couldn't be more honored to have her model for me! For this outfit I decided to go with shades of blue and denim. The red hair scarf and red bow wedges was a great way to compliment the blues. For make-up Jaydee did a smokey eye using grays, heavy cat-like eyeliner, and barbie pink lipstick.

In the video Beyonce represents the muliti-tasking woman. One who is a mechanic, a cook, and who can keep the house intact, but at the end of the day it is still not enough to get the attention of her man. All she wants is love and appreciation!

After months of anticipation and several assumptions of what could possibly happen to Carrie Bradshaw and the gang, Sex and the City 2 had finally premiered. It put an end to the madness of all our unanswered questions! In honor of SJP, my plastics and I got all dressed up and pranced to the theater in our heels ( no Manolo Blahnik's or Jimmy Choo's for us =( ). The night was filled with one too many margaritas, good company and laughter. The movie exploded with amazing fashion from head to toe. I love how each character is a representation of women with distinct personalities. They are always at different points of their life when it comes to love and relationships but one thing will always remain the same and that is their never-ending friendship(cheesy I know!).

I decided to pair the shorts with a light blue tube top leotard. To emphasize the waist a skinny belt was called for. Styling Lil J's hair in a messy bun and pulling it back with a jeweled flower head band. I decided wooden wedges were a more suitable statement than gladiator sandals. This look is inspired by the girl who is building up her army to go on a wild safari. She is on the hunt for fun and she can't achieve that without looking her best! These floral shorts are light-fitted and resemble the shape of a skirt, but are more suitable for romping around in, leaving you worry-free of the wind getting in the way. The color tones are nude so I paired the outfit up with tribal inspired jewelery, piling on bracelets embellished with stones. To top off the outfit I decided that it would not be complete without a ring(and a massive one of course)! With a ring like that, this chic is fearless and ready to face the wild jungles of summer!

The month of April has been a whirl wind of events! A spontaneous Spring Break trip to New York was planned with big sis, Jane. I had the time of my life! The whole vibe of the city was extremely different from California. Everyone walking down the streets seemed to be so expressive when it came to fashion. The people of New York were like models and the street was their runway. I fell in love instantly, with the tall buildings, the cute coffee shops, the cafes, the bookstores, the beyond amazing food, the public transportation, the friendly people with good conversation at the bars, the MoMa, the Met, the overflow of fashion and the list goes on...One of these days I'm leaving California and fleeing to New York! We spent ten fun filled days in Brooklyn with our lovely host, Jade. Here is just a preview of the numerous photos we captured.

In Jo's world of shoes all I can dream about is my must-have of the clogs. I can finally trade in my variety of black leather boots for the wooden footsie goodness. It is the perfect shoe transition for spring. Karl Lagerfield debut's his clogs at the Chanel spring/summer 2010 collection, showcasing the clogs with blazers, trousers, and pale colored dresses. Who would of thought that the clogs would make a comeback?! Some may think ugly, I think another shoe genius idea! If only I could afford a pair. Purchasing these babies and it would be farewell paycheck! One day I'll be known as the girl with the uncountable number of shoes including her Jeffrey Campbell clogs, but until then I'll be known as the girl who sold her soul to shoes. For some reason the embroidery/ prints of these jackets and Alexa's dress remind me of an Indian Rug. I'm loving the velvet touch! These jackets make such a bold statement to an outfit, give your blazers a rest and throw on an Indian rug inspired jacket for that exotic look. Dress it up with a gown paired with sky high heels or pumps, or dress it down with a plain T-shirt, jeans and your rugged dirty Chuck Taylors. I bought a black velvet jacket from my local thrift store embellished with crazy prints. It's hard to label "it" because of the length, is it a shirt or a dress? Yellow Tights

I can not get over how yellow tights are worked into their outfits. I hardly see anyone rocking the yellow tights and I think that these fits give justification, that when worn right it can be pulled off. Yellow is such a bright color but when pairing it with neutrals such as black or simple patterns it doesn't seem overwhelming to the eye.

The first outfit is a perfect balance. Wearing shades of taupe and still working in other bright solid colors without overdoing it. The electric Chanel purse is a perfect touch to the yellow tights combo. Kirsten Dunst and Tao Okamoto pair their tights with black dresses and brown boots. The street styler is my favorite approach to pulling off the yellow tights. She wears a floral frock with an over-sized gray cardigan and still manages to accessorize with earrings and a gold medallion like necklace. Her purse adds a vintage feel her fit. The last photo, the street styler sticks to different shades of blue. She doesn't have a lot going on with her ensemble keeping it simple but sweet!

I think I'll be obsessing over this look for days! I have yellow tights that I wore once from a bumble bee costume and didn't throw them out thinking they would come in handy. Bumble Bee costume = Fashionable minus wings and black & yellow stripes!

The day consisted of frolicking on the sandy shores of Long Beach taking pictures with Big sis Jane who has just moved back from London town (whoohoo! BFF/next door roomie is bizzack!!) and lil sis Jill Rose a.k.a Lil J. We wandered around LB thrifting, our fave thing to do. Then we took a trip to Buffalo Exchange hoping to score but failed miserably. I can't believe how many items of clothing we had, some of the things I used to wear in high school I would definitely not wear now. I thought matching from head to toe, including matching eyeshadow was cool! Although Buffalo Exchange did not end up taking a bunch of my items it's good to know that certain thrift stores take donations and what is useless to me may be valuable to another.I guess the saying goes "One man's trash may be another man's treasure"

I thought it'd be genius to coordinate our outfits. My outfit: a holey black sweater and floral shorts. I am pretty sure I have been wearing this black sweater 3 times this week to different events. My boots were from my friend's (Ashills) garage sale. I do not care that these black boots are beaten up to the max! But I will not stop wearing them until they fall apart completely! It was just my luck because the wheel stopped at 40% off!! I was trapped and could not resist in buying these gorgeous platform heels. I was going back and forth between black and this blush color. Since I have so many black heels I leaned towards the blush! Now I've been having shoe nightmares of all the other heels and boots that I wanted to purchase!

Mixing patterns fashion do? Or fashion don't? I think the following inspirational pictures justify the mixing of patterns as a fashion most certainly do at your own risk! Stripes on stripes, checks on checks, checks on stripes; who would of thought that these combination of patterns could be pulled off?! My fave look is Rachel Bilson's mash up. The polka dot blouse on the patterned skirt is just the right amount of funk without the outfit being over done.

This is L.Fritz one of the most unique, far out there, wildest, funnest, strangest girls I have ever encountered with. Did I mention she has a rad sense of style too?!? It's as if she stepped right out of Nylon magazine. There's never a dull moment I have with Fritz whether we are out thrifting for goodies at our local thrift store, having trouble picking out OPI nail polishes due to there being so many color choices, sipping coffee at a cafe, eating at restaurants (wanting to order every single food dish that makes us drool just reading the menu) or partying who knows where. This girl is one of kind!

Our Friday night plans changed last minute and we were all dressed up with no where to go. Our night consisted of photo-taking, sushi eating, facebooking, beer drinking ( coke drinking for me ;) ), walking through a Wendy's drive thru for $1 chicken nuggets, and rocking out to a band playing in a backyard which was cut short thanks to the lovely police department of Whittier. Indeed it was a splendid rainy Friday night well spent.

Here are 5 reasons why I love the rain:
1) I love leaving my window open just a little bit so i can hear the "pitter patter"
2) Warm beverages such as hot cocoa and lattes taste better for some reason
3) Layers and Layers of clothing
4) The way the streets glisten when it's wet
5) Snuggling with my hunny
(and yes I know rain does have it's downfalls as well)

I have many plain tank top dresses that can also be worn as skirts when I throw a blouse or T- shirt over. I usually prefer my over-sized graphic T shirts that I shop for in the men's department. I still have yet to find the perfect band tee (preferably the Beatles). I fail to mention the brand of the black tights I wear when I do an outfit post because I have so many without the brand tags on them. Despite the rainy cold weather, I was craving an iced drink from Starbucks. Venti double shot on ice with vanilla sweetener thank you very much!(Ron Alan thought the drink smelt like tuna? what a weirdo!)

A photo shoot in an empty industrial parking lot led to wandering around and discovering a truck loading building of some sort. I am deathly afraid of heights so you can only imagine how bad my knees were trembling when I was on top of the platform. I was trying to be extremely cautious while moving around up there, so I wouldn't trip and fall breaking something, which would most likely happen knowing me. The things you would do to capture a good photo. Ron Alan continues to amaze me with his skills. We are currently using a new lens he bought and I must say I am loving it! I wanted to hurry and take the pictures so I could climb down but he wanted to wait until the sun set.

The weather was a bit chilly and I am not even mad! Getting dressed in this weather means layering it up for me. I tend to wear a lot of loose fitted clothing including this dusty pink blouse which should be worn with some tank top underneath. I decided to layer it with this light blue lacey top. This lacey top can be layered with various outfits considering I love using lace as a layer, peeking out from underneath blouses. The gray cardigan had peacock feathers floating all around and the goldish scarf consisted of different rose prints. How can I not add my prints in with the solids? The Obey jeans I purchased are getting a bit baggy and I am super bummed out that I didn't get it in a size down. We didn't get a close up on the gold necklaces which are linked together with safety pins (what is up with me and safety pins?!?). One of the necklaces has two roses linking each end which caught my attention. New wedged black boots treasure hunted at Buffalo Exchange calls for a photo shoot! There are many benefits to these wedged boots: 1) they make me taller by 4 inches 2) they make my footsies seem dainty 3) I can kick an unknown predator in the face if the time calls for it. I purchased them not knowing what brand they were thanks to Ron Alan's curiosity he made out the label inside the boots. This striped turtle neck was probably worn only once due to the length being too short to wear as a dress and wearing it with jeans just did not cut it for me. The pencil skirt solved my problem, providing the tunic with a little more length. While walking around downtown Santa Ana, we came across a bunch of pigeons all lined up on top of a parking structure. An elderly man across the street throws bird feed and in flight they go. Ron Alan captured the time line pretty well.

Thanksgiving

I am blessed with the very best! The last picture is from last year's Thanksgiving. The Thanksgiving when everyone in my family was present. This year's Thanksgiving was filled with loved ones, never ending eating and my hair catching on fire caused by leaning over a lit candle. The smell of burnt hair lingered forever! I hope everyone's Thanksgiving was well spent.

I found this brown stripped dress in the sale section of Urban Outfitters while shopping in San Francisco. Although it was a size 8, I just couldn't pass it up. I thought of the many ways I could outfit the dress and was convinced that it had to be mine. The use of the safety pin came to my rescue once again, since there was no time to sew it in, making it the perfect fit. It was also loose at the chest area, but with the help of the lacey bra, problem solved! The satin tie taken off from another blouse which was used as belt. The black heels are Nine West which were borrowed from Lil J.

Alexander Wang

Alexander Wang is an extraordinary designer who describes his customer as a girl who does not let the last size on the rack get in the way of outfitting herself. She is confident with her style and has no set boundaries. She is willing to experiment with whatever piece of clothing that may come her way.
I love how Alexander Wang plays with different proportions in his collections from tight fitted mesh tanks to loose fitting trousers. His fall 2008 collection consists of oversized blazers and the ripped up tights giving the sophisticated look a bit of edge. A girl who wants to dress up in a vest but dresses it down with a beanie cap. I love how he can be inspired by anything including things many would not think possible. For example his spring 2009 collection leaves me in awe. Who would ever think that American football could inspire fashion?! I love how he makes pieces that can be worn for numerous of occasions. The same dress worn in the day can transition into an evening dress paired with the right accessories and shoes. OoOlala and I love how his models have the long hair/side braid which adds the laid back/ sporty vibe.

The two outfits I created can be worn out on a day shopping or at night to a party. If only I actually owned one of these Alexander Wang pieces!

San Francisco

Oh San Francisco, how i love thee! I took a trip up north with the lovely Jaydee and Ayee to visit the one and only Elle Robinson! I am in love with everything about this busy city. The public transportation, walking down endless blocks, Haight street and its numerous vintage shops, shopping until i basically drop dead, the perfect cardigan weather, the coffee shops and cafes on every corner, and of course- Elle. The city was filled with trendy people from left to right, all with their own unique sense of style. Men dressed in spiffy suits and the women in their warm coats with the latest and greatest boot trends. If only I snapped a couple of photos for your viewing pleasure. Hopefully, I painted some sort of picture in your heads.

After checking in to the J.W. Marriot, we lounged around enjoying our room. After, we were off to shop while making a vow to ourselves only to buy things that we knew would be beneficial to add to our wardrobe and to, of course, shop smart! We spent hours in H&M, Urban Outfitters (which seemed to be where all the well- dressed girls were = total eye candy looking at all their great outfits)and Forever21.

Day two was spent with the witty and spunky Elle Robinson. Each of us searched for the perfect lipstick at Sephora, which is make-up heaven BTW. I decided to go bold and ended up purchasing Sephora in Rouge, a dark plum shade.
We ended our night trying on all our things we bought, including make up purchases. Thanks to Jaydee for creating wonders with her eyeshadows. How can we not have a photo shoot in our awesome hotel lobby?! Denim Dress

My lovely Friday was spent in San Diego. Ron Alan and I decided to do some sale shopping at Urban Outfitters in Hillcrest on 5th avenue. I love the length of this tan corduroy trench which can also be worn as a dress with a big belt cinched at the waist to give your body more shape. This denim dress was falling apart as I was getting dressed. I was in a hurry and decided to unbutton it half way, which was a bad move. I pulled my head through causing two of the buttons to rip off. The first button was already missing when I purchased it. I still wanted to wear the dress and I didn't feel like changing my attire so to solve my missing button problem- big safety pin to the rescue! Thankfully the zebra print scarf draped over perfectly covering the safety pin. No missing buttons will get in the way of my denim dress outfit combo!

Big hair, lace, piled on jewelery, cross necklaces, bright pink lipstick, floral dress, and pumps = perfect Halloween costume
After changing my mind 20 billion times I finally ended up in this cutesy floral dress, which of course is thrifted (I would wear floral on Halloween)! The bag I am wearing is vintage Gucci. "It was my mom's in the eighties" (quote by Mean Girls if you didn't know) For your viewing pleasure, I added Madonna's Lucky Star music video I couldn't stop singing this song while getting dressed. The last picture is with my prince charming a.k.a my talented photographer!

Drapey Vest

How is the drapey vest justified you might wonder? The way the extra material droops over can also give the effect of a scarf/shawl. I also like the ragged look it conveys.
After blow drying my hair, it seemed to have that nice volume bounce. I didn't want to ruin it's moment so I decided not to kink it up by waving/curling it with all these products. I wore it straight, which I hardly ever do. 90% of the time, my hair is either waved of some sort. I feel like most of the outfits I wear go better with some tosseled wavey hair. As soon as I grow this baby out, wearing it any way will please me!
